Yesterday. My male collie Rainier, wanted to play with the new baby chicks. He went in and helped himself to a baby chick knocking over the bucket of chicks I heard the chicks peeping and went to see what was.
All my pups, Shep, Snowy and Lassen were in the laundry room with the chicks
At first I thought they had knocked it over. Snow was wagging her tail her butt in the air look she said, with her eyes and body jestures some chicks are loose she pointed and poked at them with her nose. I scooped them up three at once. back into the bucket. She was off poking her nose in another corner. Lassen left the laundry room. I barly noticed. Shep said woof very softly he had his head under a rolling cart. I got down and peered under. There was a baby chick. Good boy! I said I fished the chick out from under the cart. He nosed it. Into the bucket with him. Oh dear some are still missing I thought. Snowy was waging and noseing around in the other corner more chicks good girl. I said. They went in the bucket without a fuss. I still felt some were missing. We kept looking. Lassen appeared out of nowhere with a baby chick in her mouth. Drop it I said she immediately dropped it. I caught it in my hand. I said no Lassen, bopping her nose. At that second it accured to me she had not hurt the chick she had brought it to me. So I said oh sweetie I'm sorry your a good girl hugging her to me. she wagged her tail. Happy to be of help. I found two more behind the dog food bin. Okay let's go I called to the pups. I went into the living room and there was Rainier with a baby chick between his front paws. He had given it a bath it was all wet and was laying there with it mothering it. poor baby almost love to death. I put the soaked chick back with the others. it was then that I realized he was the one who had knock them over all the chicks are alive and well. We are now letting him have some time with them with supervision. It is really so cute. He is so big and they are so little he still wants to bathe them. He seems a little hurt when we won't let him. Andy took some pictures we will put them up later.
